At Kindred Protective Arts, we have a set of overarching principles that guide our training. The idea is that everything we do and teach is related to one or more of these fundamental principles. It’s a great way to tie together all of the techniques and drills we do into a cohesive whole.
Black Belts at KPA demonstrate deep understanding and application of these concepts.

We keep these 12 Principles in a prominent place in our school, right next to our lineage and our American and Philippines flags.
In class, it's normal to work on a concept or technique and refer to one or more of the 12 Principles. Students see all the different ways these principles support almost everything we do.
These are the 12 Principles of Presas Arnis:
Find the Fight
Fundamentals Always Matter
Own Your Space
When It’s Time to Change, Change
It’s All The Same
Know the Commonalities, Understand the Differences
Weaponize Everything
Learn From Everyone
Always Seek Positional Advantage
Always Respect Your Opponent
There Is Always A Counter
We will go into depth on each principle here on KPA's blog. When we publish a blog on each principle, we'll link to it here (so feel free to bookmark this post).
